Monies

On the Coast, a modest but comfortable wage is £40 per month, £16 of which would go to food and £10 of which would go to rent. Only £14 would remain for expenses.

Pounds Golden

Used in Firlund, Awn, Lothrheim, and Leeland. Issued by Firlund.

A pound coin contains 2 grams of pure gold. It is bound in iron to prevent gold loss and to dissuade fairies. Most transactions are conducted in pence and the surrounding denominations as few folk carry whole pounds.

Denominations and coins:

  • Golden crown = 100 pence
  • Golden pound (£) = 20 pence
  • Electrum halfpound (rare) = 10 pence
  • Silver shilling (S) = 5 pence/a quarter pound
  • Silver tuppenny = 2 pence
  • Silver penny (p) = 1 penny
  • Copper haypenny = half a penny
  • Copper farthing = quarter penny

A kilogram of pure gold is worth £500. A kilogram of pure silver £25. This 20:1 ratio is stringently controlled by Firlish law.

Reales

The real is used in Alagór, Maples, Cimarron, and most of the Agratian and Sarobbean isles. Issued by Alagór.

Reales are close in value to the Firlish crown coin (.89)—though the coins look different, and the peseta is technically the equivalent to a pound—and are often used interchangeably with Northern currency for small purchases.

Denominations and coins:

  • Real = 100 pesetas
  • Peseta (P) = 20 céntimos
  • Décima = 10 céntimos
  • Scudo = 5 céntimos
  • Octavo/piece of eight = 2.5 céntimos
  • Céntimo = 1 céntimo

Marcs impérial

Used in Leah, Anzer, Belvirine, Balte, and Empereaux. The Coast’s newest currency, issued and put into circulation by the newly-formed Dominion earlier this century.

An Emperoussin guilder is worth .97 of a pound. No one will quibble over an exact exchange rate in small transactions.

Denominations and coins:

  • Platinum gloria = 300 marcs
  • Golden guilder = 15 marcs
  • Silver marc = 1 marc

Ceruleans

Ancient Agadese coinage. An Agadese cerulean is worth £2.2.

Not in circulation, but desired as a constant item of wealth nonetheless. May be used for private transactions in the aristosphere or the digirati (magicians.)
