Introduction

You’re setting out to create a cutter, your player character. As such, this book is addressed to you, to player and character as one.

If you are the game’s referee, you are the Bookkeeper. The information and systems within this rulebook apply to characters portrayed by you as well—with exceptions only you need to know.

If you’re a new player, read the page after this one, do character creation, and proceed. You can read more later. Rules mastery is not asked of you. When you want to do something, tell the Bookkeeper. They’ll tell you if you need to roll. The rules are designed to be taught and adjudicated. You’ll benefit from greater rules knowledge in the long term—as you survive sessions and gain XP—but at the start, just read the basics.

Dice

A twelve-sided die is used for skill rolls. You’ll roll it more frequently than anything else. Twenty-sided dice are used for determining bad outcomes. Four-sided dice are for dealing damage. Other shapes have niche applications.

Supplies

For in-person play, you’ll need:

  • Polyhedral dice
  • A grid map or graph paper
  • Minis, tokens, or pawns for said map.
  • Pencils, paper, and preferably a printer.

Additionally, you’ll want all players, Bookkeeper included, to have access to the following documents:
