Character Creation
  1. Acquire a cutter record sheet
  2. Randomize 1 of the 7 core skills—Agility, Fortitude, Immunity, Intellect, Might, Perception, and Subtlety—using 1d8 (re-rolling 8.) Record its level as 0; this is your weakness.
  3. Roll 1d4 six times. Record the results, in order, as the starting levels for your remaining core skills. Swap one for another, if desired, but not with your weakness.
  4. Choose a sort that matches your weakness. Record its creature type. If it lists more than one type, choose. Record these choices and their consequences.
  5. Buy starting virtues. You have 20 XP to spend and you can earn more by gaining issues. Leftover XP is retained. Choose no more than three virtues or issues now.
  6. Record starting possessions: d6 pennies, a cloth backpack, a modest suit of clothes, and a sorry pair of shoes
  7. Fill in your name and particulars.

Optional: Common Skills

After choosing starting virtues and issue, trade 20 starting XP for a random skill from the table. If you gained sufficient XP from issues, you can buy a second roll.

1 Matchsmithy 2
2 Horsemanship 2
3 Swimming 2
4 Melee: Hand-to-Hand 2
5 Throw 2
6 melee: hack and slash 2
7 Language: [One common] 2
8 Barbering 2
9 Cooking 2
10 Cards 2
11 Stowage 2
12 Lore: [One common] 2

If the skill you gain is already provided by your chosen sort, re-roll.

Optional: chosen weakness

The Bookkeeper may permit you choose your weakness, rather than randomize it. If you do, you should not swap one core skills for another. Choosing your weakness effectively allows you to chose your sort, so use this option sparingly.
